What is a ceramic coating?

Now, we could get into the fine details of how ceramic coating works on a microscopic level, but that’s just not practical. So here’s a simplified version that should answer any questions you may have.

Think of a ceramic coating like a case for your phone. Adding that second layer of protection means more peace of mind for the thing you spent your hard earned money on.

It’s an extremely durable layer of silicon dioxide (glass) that cures to the exterior of your vehicle's paint, creating an unbeatable gloss and shine, plus ultra hydrophobic properties you just can't get with a traditional exterior wash. When the nano ceramic coating bonds with the vehicle's clear coat, these coatings are designed to last anywhere from 3 to 7+ years depending on the package you choose.

So how do these coatings work?

When we apply a ceramic coating, it starts in liquid form, and then cures to the paint almost instantly, going from liquid to solid. This is another reason it takes so much practice to apply these coatings effectively. Once the coating hardens to the paint, it’s now a permanent part of your vehicle's exterior. Your paint then has an extremely smooth appearance and feel. Because of this, dirt, bugs, and road grime just don't stick to your paint like they used to.

Any surface scratches that affect your paint from here on out can be easily removed with a simple polish. Another added bonus is increased UV protection to your paint and glass.

Peace of mind is the goal when having a ceramic coating installed, and we can guarantee that’s what you’ll get.

Why do ceramic coatings cost so much?

Here’s the main question everyone asks when it comes to ceramic coatings here in Indianapolis IN, so let’s break it down.

  1. Ceramic coating application simply takes lots and lots of time. We first wash and decontaminate the car's paint, then we polish and prepare the paint for the ceramic coating application. After the coating is applied, we’re crossing over an average of 10 hours for a medium sized vehicle.

  2. Automotive ceramic coatings are the hardest and most durable coatings to ever exist. It creates a shield around your car’s paint, protecting it for not months, but years!

  3. As paint correction and ceramic coating specialists, we put ourselves through an intensive 90 day training program to ensure we’re applying these coatings as safely and effectively as possible. So we’re charging for our expertise and experience.

“Why do I need a ceramic coating?”

At the end of the day, having a ceramic coating applied to your vehicle's paint is about protecting your investment. We’re always blown away when people spend $50,000+ on a brand new vehicle, and the hesitate spend a fraction of that to have it protected for a lifetime.

So often people neglect one of the biggest investments they'll ever make, and in turn they see it deteriorate just years later due to the harsh conditions we experience on the road everyday here in Indianapolis. Down the line when you're ready to sell or trade in your vehicle, you’ll be getting the most money back in your pocket due to how durable and tough these coatings are, and how pristine they keep your car’s paint.

Here’s our in depth step by step process.

First, we foam down and hand wash the exterior of the vehicle, removing surface dirt and road grime. Once all that’s loosened up, we rinse down the vehicle and start our decontamination process. We start by using a clay bar across the paint, which sticks into the clear coat and pulls out those fibers of dirt and dust that aren’t removed during the wash process. After that, we perform our iron decontamination. This is sprayed onto the car’s paint and wheels, and starts to break down things like surface rust, stuck on road tar, and more.

We like to explain everything that goes into preparing the vehicle for a paint correction and ceramic coating to show just how involved and detailed these services can be.

Now the good stuff. After the vehicle is completely clean and free of any contaminants, we can then start our paint correction. You can learn more about paint correction here. In short, it’s just another way we prepare the vehicle's paint so that our ceramic coating application goes as smoothly as possible.
